Greetings, STEM enthusiasts!
We're back with another exciting edition of Stemble, bringing you the latest developments from the world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. In this edition, we shine the spotlight on the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and its groundbreaking initiative to introduce QR code-based e-tickets. Get ready to explore how this innovative system is set to transform the way commuters travel in the bustling city of Delhi!
Delhi Metro's QR-based E-tickets: A Ticket to Convenience
Officials at the DMRC have unveiled their plans to launch a QR code-based ticketing system, revolutionizing the way commuters access the Metro. Soon, Delhiites will be able to enter and exit the Metro stations using nothing but their mobile phones. This exciting development is part of DMRC's ongoing efforts to enhance the passenger experience and embrace digital advancements.
Anuj Dayal, the principal executive director of corporate communications at DMRC, expressed his optimism about the new technology, stating, "We hope to make this facility available for the passengers by the end of this month." With the technology already in the final stages of testing, it won't be long before commuters can enjoy the convenience and speed of QR code-based ticketing.
Seamless Entry with QR Codes
The forthcoming Metro ticketing system will rely on the Delhi Metro Rail app to generate e-tickets. After making a payment through various available options, passengers can simply display the QR code generated on their phones to gain entry through the automatic fare collection (AFC) gates. This efficient process aims to reduce queues and expedite the flow of passengers, making daily travel hassle-free and more convenient for everyone.
Transitioning to QR Code Technology
While the introduction of QR code-based ticketing marks an exciting leap forward, DMRC officials emphasize that commuters will still have the option to purchase tokens, use smart cards, or buy paper-based QR tickets. However, there are plans to gradually phase out the use of tokens in the long run. As part of their transition strategy, DMRC recently introduced QR code-based paper tickets across all Metro lines. Although some initial glitches were reported, the DMRC team is actively working to smoothen the process and ensure a seamless experience for all passengers.
Joining the Digital Revolution
The Delhi Metro has long been a beacon of technological advancement, providing a sustainable and efficient mode of transportation to millions of commuters every day. With the introduction of QR code-based ticketing, DMRC continues to demonstrate its commitment to embracing innovative solutions that improve the daily lives of passengers. This exciting step paves the way for a future where digital convenience and efficient public transportation go hand in hand.
That's all for this edition of Stemble! Stay tuned for more intriguing STEM news and updates in our upcoming newsletters. As always, keep exploring, discovering, and embracing the fascinating world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Despite all the obstacles and challenges in modern-day Indian economy, I love how people are still working on the Digital India vision. Even the lowest of the low realize that in a few years, a lot of their payments will be done digitally via UPI.
